The SARA Board
The SARA Board is the supreme organ of the Association and comprises all the Chief Executives of all SARA Members. It deliberates on policy matters and provides the committees with the necessary guidance required to ensure that SARA lives up to its mission and achieves its strategic objectives.
SARA EXCO
The SARA Executive Committee (EXCO)
The EXCO is the policy formulation machinery of SARA and comprises of representatives who are second in command to the CEO’s in each member’s organisation. It executes the following functions:
- Formulate policy for approval by the Board
- Reviews and directs the activities of the various committees in order to promote the regional railway business
- Monitor the activities of SARA to ensure value added deliverables for all categories of members.
- Oversees the functioning of the SARA Secretariat
SARA Committees
Issues requiring investigation, deliberation, coordination and harmonisation are pursued by three standing, working committees namely:
- Policy, Investment, Finance, & Administration, Human Resources Development and Gender
- Technical
- Business Management
Ad-hoc Project Teams can be formed by each committee to undertake specialised tasks. Proposals are then submitted to the EXCO for consideration and recommendation to the Board. The functions of each of the committees are as per the Terms of Reference.
Corridor Management Groups (CMGs)
Decisions and plans agreed upon at committee level are implemented at corridor level by the interdisciplinary Corridor Management Groups, on which all railways along those corridors are duly represented. (see Corridor Map below).
